You Can’t Have What You Can’t See: How to Pray with Vision

Grace and Peace

There is a principle that the Holy Ghost has been teaching me that I believe is about to change the way you approach prayer forever.

It's simple, but it's not easy: if you can't see it, you can't have it.

Not "see" as in your natural eyes : your natural eyes can't see God, can't see what he's building, can't see what he's promised. I mean what you see in your mind, in your spirit, when you close the door and go before God. That inner vision is the blueprint for what gets built in your life.

We've been taught to pray. To press. To fast. To believe. And all of that is right and good. But we've missed a foundational step: the vision.

The Blueprint of Prophetic Vision

Ezekiel stood in a valley of dry bones. He knew those bones. He knew they represented God's people : and he had watched those same people resist every word God had given him for years. By the time God brought him to that valley, Ezekiel didn't even believe those bones could live.

When God asked him, "Can these bones live?" Ezekiel wouldn't even answer. He said, "You know, Lord." That was prophet-speak for: I honestly don't think so, but I'm not saying that out loud.

And God didn't rebuke him. God changed his vision first.

"Prophesy to these bones," God said. And as Ezekiel prophesied : as he began to speak from a changed vision : the bones came together. Flesh appeared. Breath entered. The valley of dry bones became a vast army.

Your vision changed before the miracle.

Biblical Patterns of Shifted Sight

This is the pattern we see over and over in Scripture. Hannah went into the temple without a child and left with a shifted vision : and Samuel followed. Peter couldn't even fathom that God would save the Gentiles until God rewired his vision on that rooftop in Joppa, and then Cornelius and his household became the first Gentile family to receive the Holy Spirit.

Jesus looked at a dead man and called him asleep. He was fighting to keep the people around him from locking death in with their confession before he ever got to the tomb.

What are you locking in with your confession? What are you reinforcing with your inner vision?

Shifting Your Reception through Faith-Based Entrepreneurship

Here's what I want you to do the next time you go to God in prayer. Before you open your mouth with requests, ask yourself: what am I actually SEEING?

What picture is running in my mind? Is it the bill that's overdue, the relationship that's broken, the door that's closed? Or is it what the Word says : above and not beneath, lender and not borrower, healed and whole and moving forward?

If you can shift what you SEE, you can shift what you RECEIVE.

Two Minutes to Frame Your World

Two minutes in the morning can frame your entire day. You don't need a lengthy prayer meeting every morning : though those are a blessing. What you need is two intentional minutes where you speak what you see:

"Father, I thank you that I flow like a river of living water today. I thank you for increase. I thank you that every door I approach, you have already opened."

Frame it. See it. Then watch what God does with a people who finally have a current vision.
