Grace and Peace.
When most people hear the word debt, they think about money. We think about the weight of credit cards, the long-term shadow of student loans, the monthly drain of the car note, or the massive commitment of the mortgage. We measure our freedom by the numbers in our bank accounts and the balances on our statements. But there is a different kind of ledger that many of us are carrying, one that doesn't show up on a credit report, yet it dictates every move we make.
The Holy Spirit asked me a question this week that has not let me go. He said, "What debts are you still paying that I already paid?"
He was not talking about credit cards. He was talking about the debts you owe to your past, your memories, your childhood, your disappointments, and the version of you that does not exist anymore.
The Ledger of the Soul
We are often more faithful to our past wounds than we are to our present grace. We act as though the sacrifice of Christ was a down payment rather than a full settlement.
Are you still emotionally indebted to something somebody said over you when you were eight years old? Are you still paying interest on a wound from a relationship that ended ten years ago? Are you still tithing your peace to a season that is already closed?
If the answer is yes, hear this: The cross worked.
You do not have to keep paying for what Jesus already paid for. In the Kingdom economy, "paid in full" means exactly that. There are no hidden fees, no balloon payments, and no refinancing required. When Jesus said, "It is finished," He was cancelling the spiritual record of debt that stood against you. He nailed it to the cross so you wouldn't have to carry it into your future.

Why Your "Debt" Blocks Your Destiny
Here is why this matters more than just emotional health. This isn't just about feeling better; it’s about your ability to steward what God has for you.
A victim does not know how to handle wealth.
A person who is still emotionally indebted to their past cannot steward what God is releasing in their future. If you are constantly looking over your shoulder to see who you still "owe" an apology, an explanation, or a pound of flesh to, you cannot look ahead at the land God is giving you to possess.
Everything is broken with a victim. Money breaks. Relationships break. Opportunities break. Because brokenness in does not produce wholeness out. You cannot build a high-level destiny on a low-level identity of indebtedness. If you believe you are still "owing" for your mistakes or your past, you will subconsciously sabotage the abundance God tries to bring your way because you don't feel you have the right to own it.
So before you ask God to release the next thing, let Him release the last thing. Before you look for prophetic guidance on your next move, you must accept the prophetic truth of your current freedom.
The Power of Prophetic Declaration
Freedom is not just a feeling; it is a legal standing in the Spirit. But you have to enforce that standing with your mouth.
I prophesy over myself every single morning. I am debt free. I am debt free. I am free from debt of every kind.
- Money debt.
- Memory debt.
- Childhood debt.
- Relationship debt.
- Past-version-of-me debt.
If I am not debt free, then the cross did not work. And the cross worked. So I speak it. And it becomes true in my body, in my finances, and in my mind.

You can do the same thing. But you have to do it on purpose. You have to be more intentional about your freedom than the enemy is about your bondage. Faith and identity are built through the words we agree with. If you agree with your debt, you stay in prison. If you agree with the Cross, you walk out.
Practical Steps to Walk in Your Receipt
God is a God of order. He wants you to move from the theory of freedom to the practice of freedom. Here is how you start working with your words and your actions this week.
1. Get Honest and Make the List
Start by getting honest. Make a list of every debt that is not financial.
- Things you still feel guilty about.
- People you still feel like you owe something to.
- Versions of yourself you keep apologizing for.
- Words that were spoken over you that you accepted as your identity.
Write them down. Look at the list. And then declare over each one: "This is paid. Jesus paid this. I am released from this." When you see it on paper, it loses its power in the shadows.
2. Watch Your Vocabulary
Then do the harder work. Watch your vocabulary the rest of the day. Some of us are not speaking bad words over ourselves; we are speaking damaging ones. We are calling ourselves "the wound" instead of calling ourselves "the healing."
Stop identifying as "a survivor" and start identifying as "the redeemed." Stop identifying as "the one who was left" and start identifying as "the one who was chosen." The same tools you use on creation, use on you. Your mouth is a creative instrument. Use it to build the version of you that Christ already bought.

3. Make Room for the New
And finally, make room. Throw some things away. There is a season of finishing happening right now, and you cannot bring all your old debts into your new room.
- Sort the closet (get rid of the clothes from the version of you that was hiding).
- Sort the contacts (release the people who only know you by your old debt).
- Sort the calendar (stop tithing time to things that drain your spirit).
- Sort the thought life.
Whatever has been holding you, give it back to the cross. If you need help navigating this transition, consider looking into prophetic coaching to help realign your vision.
You Are Not Who They Said You Were
The enemy wants you to live in a perpetual state of "paying back." He wants you to feel like you are always behind, always lacking, and always in debt to your history. But the Gospel says otherwise.
You are not who they said you were.
You are not who you used to be.
You are not the wound.
You are not the diagnosis.
You are not the failure.
You are not the rejection.
You are the righteousness of God in Christ. You are debt free. The receipts have been signed in blood, and the court of heaven has adjourned. There is no more evidence against you.
Walk like it. Talk like it. Live like it. The garden is waiting for you to cultivate it, but you can't till the ground if your hands are still tied to the past.
