For forty two years I have studied the book of Revelation, and I still do not have the fullness of it. But I have settled one thing, and it changed how I read every chapter. The book is called the revelation of Jesus Christ. Not Jesus as Savior. Not Jesus as Son of God. Jesus as the Christ, the anointed one, the many membered one. And the many membered one is you.
That single shift takes Revelation out of the category of a horror story and puts it where it belongs. The word revelation means an unveiling. Something that was hidden is being shown. If the book is the unveiling of Christ as a corporate people, then the book is not primarily about seas turning to blood. It is about what God is finally allowed to show through a company of believers who know who they are.
Come to chapter five with me. John sees a scroll in the right hand of the One seated on the throne, written on the front and the back, sealed with seven seals. A mighty angel asks who is worthy to open it. No one in heaven, on earth, or under the earth is found worthy, and John weeps loudly. Then an elder tells him to stop weeping, because the Lion of the tribe of Judah has already triumphed. He is worthy to open the book and its seals.
Now hold that and go to Ephesians. Paul says that after you heard the message of truth, the good news of your salvation, when you put your trust in Him, you were sealed with the promise of the Spirit, who is the guarantee of your inheritance. In chapter four he says do not grieve the Spirit of God by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. In 2 Corinthians he says God establishes us, anoints us, sets His seal on us, and gives the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.
Do you see it? Every time God speaks of something sealed, something reserved, something only He is permitted to touch, He is speaking about a people. Paul told the church at Corinth that they were written epistles read by all men. When God talks about a book, He is talking about a people, and that people is you.
That is why nothing in Revelation happens until the book is opened. Not one trumpet. Not one seal. Not one judgment. The whole sequence waits on a book, and the book is a people who have come into completeness. Look at what precedes chapter five. The seven churches. What God commends, what He corrects, what is added and what is removed, until you have a people brought into balance. Seven is the number of completion. When that people is complete, the book can be opened.
Here is the part that ought to change your week. There are things inside you that have been sealed until now. Not denied. Sealed. Gifts, talents, capacities, an anointing that was preserved rather than withheld. Most of us are operating in a fraction of what God has given us to operate in, and we assumed the fraction was the ceiling. It was the lid.
I want to be careful here, because sealed can sound like punished. It is the opposite. You seal what you intend to protect. You seal what is too valuable to leave exposed. God has been keeping something in you for an hour when it would carry weight, and the hour is not in the distant future. It is now.
So what does it look like when the seals come off? It looks like ordinary people who suddenly have language they did not have, courage they did not have, a capacity for other people's pain that they did not have. It looks like the church stopping its search for a platform and becoming a house. It looks like a group of believers who quit arguing about escape routes and start exercising dominion where they already live.
I am not asking you to speculate about dates. I am asking you to stop treating your own life as a footnote to prophecy. You are not the audience for the unveiling. You are the material. A finished work does not mean a finished story. It means the foundation is settled and the showing has begun.
Take that into your prayer time. Ask Him plainly what has been sealed in you and what He is opening now. Then be still long enough to hear the answer, and write down what He says.
